1. Introduction to CSIC 704 Research Institute
Established in November 1956 and located at No.10 Hengshan Road, Shanghai, the 704 Research Institute is a professional research institution focused on the application research, design, development, and assembly of ship auxiliary electromechanical equipment and systems. The institute has developed five major professional sectors: special equipment, integrated ship power supply systems, auxiliary electromechanical equipment, specialized testing, and environmental and reliability experiments. Its expertise spans over 30 specialties including special machinery, deck machinery, conveyor machinery, special propulsion, anti-rolling devices, cabin machinery, motors and power stations, environmental protection equipment, seawater desalination, special valves, thermal HVAC, hydraulics, and vibration and noise reduction.
The institute employs nearly 900 staff, including over 640 technical personnel. Among them are more than 50 senior engineers, 150 associate senior engineers, and over 230 intermediate-level engineers. Over 170 employees hold master’s degrees or above, with 10 enjoying special government allowances. Several experts have received provincial and ministerial recognition for outstanding contributions.
With the integration of marine and terrestrial markets, the 704 Institute has actively expanded into land-based products, developing complete systems in textile machinery, industrial production lines, special non-standard equipment, hydraulic engineering systems integration, refrigeration and air conditioning engineering, and environmental protection projects, widely applied in industries such as textiles, home appliances, hydropower, metallurgy, and papermaking.
