1. Project Overview: Kunming Mobile Data Center Phase II
The Phase II civil construction project of China Mobile (Yunnan) Data Center is located in the Chenggong Information Industry Park, Kunming — a provincial-level industrial park focusing on big data and cloud computing industries. This key provincial project covers a total construction area of 34,000 square meters, including one data center building and one power center. Upon completion, it will support 5,432 server racks, significantly strengthening the “Digital Yunnan” information infrastructure and providing a model for rapid digital economy development.
The project actively supports the national “dual carbon” strategy by adopting advanced high-pressure water-cooled chillers and 240V high-voltage direct city power supply for energy saving. The expected Phase II Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is 1.268, reducing 9 percentage points from Phase I’s 1.36. After completion, the China Mobile (Yunnan) Data Center will provide approximately 13,000 racks, making it the largest and highest-grade green data center in Yunnan Province.
During construction, the project adhered to high-quality development and green energy-saving principles, strictly implementing the “five elements” management requirements. It overcame challenges such as complex site conditions, traffic control, and pandemic restrictions, completing the topping-out ceremony in 10 months—one month ahead of schedule.
A process sample area was established onsite, requiring acceptance before bulk construction for each subproject. The project extensively applied new technologies and smart site management systems, including crane visualization, unloading platform safety monitoring, edge protection monitoring, high-formwork and scaffolding monitoring systems, and smart safety helmets, ensuring the safety of personnel, machinery, materials, and equipment. The sprinkler control system integrates PM2.5 and noise monitoring, automatically activating sprinklers and mist systems when thresholds are exceeded, ensuring compliance with urban construction standards.
Through effective smart infrastructure management, the project has been awarded the “2022 Wage Compliance Project in Kunming” and “2022 Science and Technology Plan Project by Yunnan Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department,” among other honors.
