1. Project Overview: Chengdu International Airport New City

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport New City (referred to as “Tianfu International Airport New City”) is managed by Chengdu High-tech Zone, covering an area of 483 square kilometers, making it the largest airport city planned in China. The project adheres to the strategic positioning of “leading a new core of aviation hub economy, supporting a new inland opening hub, and gathering global innovative talents,” implementing the city-building concept of “refined construction, broad talent attraction, strong functions, and thriving industries.” It follows the planning principle of “one area, one industrial function zone, and one new urban community.”

The project focuses on two core missions: ensuring airport operations and shaping the new city. It emphasizes the development of three key zones — Tianfu Olympic Park Core Area, Sancha TOD, and Chengdu High-tech Aviation Economic Zone — forming a comprehensive “1+2+5+N” regional planning system and accelerating the construction of the “one ring, three horizontal, and four vertical” backbone road network.

This year, 62 new projects have commenced with a total investment of 67 billion RMB; 35 projects have been signed and registered with a total investment of 140 billion RMB.

The New City follows the principles of “comprehensive operation, key breakthroughs, overall promotion,” and “government-led, enterprise主体, market-oriented operation,” accelerating construction through integrated area development. The Tianfu Olympic Park planning involved over 100 top domestic and international experts and went through nine revisions, receiving widespread social acclaim. Construction is progressing rapidly. The International Convention Island invited global top design institutions to contribute conceptual design solutions.

The Chengdu High-tech Aviation Economic Zone, centered on Tianfu International Airport, covers 138.9 square kilometers, with approximately 49.5 square kilometers of construction land. It aims to establish a national-level international aviation economic demonstration zone. The zone adheres to hub-driven, industry-city integration, and innovation-led principles, accelerating the formation of a globally influential new aviation industry hub and building a modern aviation industry system and innovation ecosystem with international competitiveness and regional influence.

Hosted by Chengdu High-tech Zone, a special planning expert review and investment promotion meeting was held in Shanghai. Nearly 50 representatives from general aviation groups, COMAC, China Eastern Airlines Group, Shanghai Aviation Society, and other domestic and international aviation enterprises and industry associations attended to promote the aviation industry chain and cluster development in Chengdu.
