The new airport terminal building was completed in July 2019. The roof of the terminal building is 50 meters high and cost 6.39 billion yuan.

Beijing New Airport is located between Yufa Town and Lixian Town in Daxing District, Beijing and Guangyang District, Langfang City, Hebei Province. In December 2012, the State Council and the Municipal Party Committee officially approved the establishment of the new airport project. On December 15, 2014, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the construction of Beijing’s new airport. The construction period is 5 years and it is planned to be put into operation in 2019. The new airport will build 4 runways, a terminal building of 700,000 square meters and corresponding facilities such as cargo, air traffic control, aviation fuel, and municipal facilities. The local government will also support the construction of comprehensive transportation projects such as expressways, intercity railways, and airport express rails.

The Beijing Metro New Airport Line will start construction in 2015 and is expected to be put into use simultaneously with the Beijing New Airport in 2019. The new airport line starts from the north terminal of the new airport in the south and ends at Caoqiao in the north. The total length of the line is 43 kilometers. There are 3 stations in total. At Caoqiao station, it transfers with the existing Line 10 and the planned Line 19. The new airport line of the subway is designed to have a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour and will become the fastest subway line in Beijing. The “starfish” project was jointly designed by the most famous female architect in the UK, Zaha Hadid, and the Paris Airport Group Architectural Design Company.
